Home / History

The past is always present in Hobsons Bay. Nearly everywhere you look, you’ll discover evidence of Victoria’s proud and fascinating history.

The history of Victoria is closely linked to the development of this area. It was to be the capital of the State and it was the first port of Melbourne

It has elegant Victorian-era buildings and beautifully preserved streetscapes that link our past and future.

With its rich maritime history and links to the development of rail, in Williamstown you can still get a sense of the early days of Melbourne

Even today the Tall Ships of the world call Williamstown home on the journeys around the globe.
