Commonwealth Reserve

Comm ReserveThis is Williamstown’s ‘village green.’ It is positioned between the picturesque streetscape of Nelson Place, and Gem Pier, which was the site of Melbourne’s first pier.  Note the impressive Customs House at the eastern end of the reserve. When it was built, customs duties were levied on goods from the other Australian colonies, as well as goods from overseas.
